Services for Carol

Services were held for Carol on Sunday May 15, 2005 at the Montecito Memorial Park. It was a beautiful day with beautiful speeches, wonderful songs and a full house.

Carol would have blushed from all that loving attention.

To My Dear Maija,

The long struggle is over.

So much of your time and energy - your life - was torturously tied to the physicality that was, once, your mother. I am so very sorry for your loss - but then, she's been lost for some time. Soon you'll discover the lost time and energy, and build upon the beautiful foundation she laid in raising you so well.

You will always carry your mother with you. All you have to do is look in the mirror to see that much of what she was lives on in your eyes, your smile, your beautiful face.

You have my deepest and most sincere apologies - and my wonderful relief at the thought of your life returned.

Dear Maija,

Thank you for remembering me during this difficult time for you. I know it is cathartic for you to extend yourself right now and I'm glad to be included along with the many people Carol touched throughout so many years.

I read Adam Sadowsky's comment; I can't add much more to that other than I'm sorry that you and I weren't able to connect sooner so I could have been helpful to you and Bob and Chris during this journey with your mom.

What a journey you've all been on. My heart feels heavy and sad for all of Carol's family but relieved that Carol's suffering is over. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She was deserving of the deep love and devotion you gave of yourself. I know from viewing the photos that you, Bob and Chris always felt her love for each of you and that you will feel for all of your days.

My love to you all. I hope to be with you on this coming Sunday, May 15.

Still in a dazed state from the incredible experience of the services for Carol. Beautiful, moving and with such love, her life was celebrated. The film, I have watched again and will keep it with my most cherished momentos of my life. The Maxwell Family loves each of you and will hold you close at heart. Walter and Carol shared those crisp, clear, honest and lovely blue eyes. I will never forget how kind and sweet Carol was......her presence was both soothing and loving.

Carol's passing is a true loss to this world. I know she has struggled these many years, but my memories of her were of a better, more care-free time. She was a sweet, kind soul - full of life and love. Your tribute to her in this website truely showed her in thi light. I wish you and your family well and know that Carol is in our prayers. Bob, Maija and Chris,
I have so much admiration for all of you. I've seen the love and determination in your care for Carol these last few years. You've done so much more than anyone could hope for. Carol was such a special person, beloved by everyone who met her, the dignity, concern and love you showed her these last fews years is the true tribute to her.

Maija, the website and film you created is so full of love and beauty, it's a joy to see. It was especially great to see it bigger when it was shown at Carol's services. I was pleased and honored to be at the services. It was a great goodbye to her.

Your family has such strength and love I know you'll all manage, but I'm sad it has to be without Carol. She was truly a special light.

Maija,
You may have noticed me looking at your site. I was pleased to see you visited mine. It seems like your loss is so new, but I appreciate your comments. I don't know how I stumbled upon your site. I think it was in the updated photos column the first time.
I immediately put it in my typepad lists because of my own epxeriences recently. My mom is early stage Alzheimer's.
I am also an art therapist and your blog is such a beautiful piece of process. It is not only therapeutic to you, I assure you that others probably have looked at it in their own grief.
Anyway, I won't run on, but I also have checked out your links and found them very helpful.
