I spent a lot of time with my Mom in the last few years and occasionally I'd try to get her to talk about things a bit more challenging than what we were going to cook for dinner that night. I did this for two reasons: A. I wanted to try to gage her level of cognitive function, how fast/slow it was declining, etc., and B. I knew this would be my last chance to find out more about how my Mom ticked and what she really thought about.
Here are 10 things about my Mom I learned:
1. My Mom did not believe in Heaven but did believe in God.
2. She was thrilled about the prospect of donating her organs to science.
3. She was proud of me and my brother.
4. She knew without question that my Dad had integrity.
5. That she would have loved to be Mummified if she could because she was totally into Egyptology.
6. She hated coconut.
7. She never worried about herself and always put others first.
8. She didn't like to watch TV but liked the History Channel.
9. She liked an impressive collection of eclectic music.
10. She loved dogs and kids (maybe even in that order).

Carol found grace and goodness in everyone and loved us all. A sweeter soul I have not known.

Carol always treated me with kindness and respect, this coming from the bratty little sister of her childhood best friend.
